Why our generation is in decline.
It was the last Comparative Religion class of the semester. There was to be a Q&A session between Muslims and non-muslims, or so. As always, the class was quiet. I was quiet.
But when one finally musters up the courage to break the silence……
“Why can’t Muslims eat pork?”, was the question.
I almost dropped to the floor hearing that.
The lecturer’s leaving for his homeland (Bosnia, I think), it’s the last class, it’s the rarest chance you get to have an open discussion regarding religion in this whole engineering programme, and that’s ALL you have?
Seriously, go READ A BOOK!!!
(That’s why I said our generation is in decline. He’s at least a final year student already and yes, he might be smart in studies, but can you spot how many mistakes he made by just asking that question? It’s all about the right moves if you wanna survive in this world, darling.)
and no, I wouldn’t want to ask any question because I don’t want to cause an uproar. Though it’s called an open discussion.
But I actually had half a mind to ask the lecturer about where our country is heading to with this current trend of the Malays being obsessed about everything Middle Eastern, because he can be just about it, since he’s Muslim and not from either regions.
You don’t think there’s even a slight tendency of Malays trying to emulate those Arabians?
Just look around, the Malays, from what I understand, weren’t so closed-minded about ‘aurat’ and stuff, like 2 decades ago. They walk around in sarongs, for goodness’ sake. And now, some give you a dagger-stare if ever YOU(not Malay) walk around in your shorts.
What’s that, yo?
And it’s not only in dressing, you can even notice their change in thinking and family values if you look close enough. It’s everywhere, in tv shows, advertisements and stuff. The girls are all trying to be demure and covered-up, the guys all trying to be alim and grow beards. Oh, btw, I DESPISE Mawi. He’s a joke.
But in the end, I figured, there’s no point talking about it. It wouldn’t change a thing and I have already a rough idea where it’s heading to. No point making all the Malays in my class hate me, eh?
(they might hate me just because I said they’re copycats, you know, nobody likes being called that.)
If you don’t think it is happening, let’s have a thorough discussion about it. I’m very interested in what others have to say about it.
Never mind me.
