Not Fun Anymore

Bitching about everything under the sun

Ever wondered…

… who is that Mr. Robinson who’s always the “gwai lo” in TVB dramas?

Part 1

Part 2

Don’t fret if you don’t quite understand them, I can translate Cantonese pretty well. =D

Ok, this guy, Gregory Charles Rivers, with a chinese name Ho Kwok Weng, has been with TVB for almost 20 years. An Australian, he first went to Hong Kong at the age of 22, because he wanted to become a singer there. Like how there are Japanophiles, he’s kinda a Hongkiephile. In the third year of his medical studies, he suddenly decided that he wasn’t that interested in it anymore and being influenced by his fellow students, he took interest in Canto-pop singers of the time. After arriving in Hong Kong, he took about a year to learn Cantonese and was accepted into TVB dramas soon after. Gregory always take up roles as the:

1. English teacher.

2. The haughty English trader of 19th century.

3. The judge.

4. The police inspector-general.

5. The clueless foreigner with bits and pieces of Cantonese.

6. French/European guy.

I must say, TVB has no imagination at all, as this poor guy always gets the name ‘Mr. Robinson’.

Even though he’s always a ‘keh-le-feh’ in dramas, it seems as though he is quite contented with whatever he’s doing and appreciate the Hong Kong life very much. And, IMHO, his Cantonese is by far the most fluent coming from a foreigner’s mouth.

A quick googling is always fruitful… =)

Uh, too lazy to translate the whole video(s). They were basically about his life, interests and current projects.

Anyway, this is his blog. *click*
